FUNCTION AND LOCATION: This position works in the surgery unit/operating room of a hospital or clinic and performs a variety of technical duties as a scrub technician and is considered a member of the surgical team.  The position may be required to work on shifts, including evenings, and weekends and holidays.  The incumbent of the position is required to report to work within 30 minutes of receiving call while on standby or call back duty.

MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY, BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40 hour work week.

Experience and Essential Knowledge and Abilities:

  • One (1) year of work experience which involved independently decontaminating and sterilizing instruments used in surgical cases; and setting up of instrument trays.  Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of decontamination and sterilization procedures; aseptic techniques; universal precautions and safety procedures; maintenance and care of equipment; names of surgical equipment; and the ability to assist in the preparation of surgical patients and assist and participate in the activities of the surgical team.
  • Substitutions Allowed: Graduation from a nationally certified training program for Operating Room Technician, Surgical Technician, or equivalent may be substituted for the experience required for the entry level.

JOB DUTIES: This position works in Surgical Service Sterile Processing of a Kona Community hospital and provides support to the surgery crew. A Sterile Processing Technician, is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispended by the department following infection and control practices and ensures client satisfaction while also adhering to the highest quality and compliance standards.  The position may be required to work on shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays and call.

MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7.

Must have basic knowledge of medical/surgical procedure and terminology and the ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate effectively with others in English; listen to and follow oral and written instructions precisely; and get along well with others.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees must be physically able to perform the essential duties of the position.  The general types of physical abilities involved, and examples of the tasks requiring these abilities, follows:

Sensory:  Read handwritten or typewritten instrument tray listings; distinguish shapes, colors and shades of color of surgical instruments; hear the conversational voice.

JOB DUTIES: The Imaging Specialist V (Computed Tomography Lead) performs the most difficult of special imaging procedures in computed tomography and also is responsible to perform lead duties such as daily work flow organization, preparing work schedules, and training new employee as well as performing computed tomography procedures for imaging of human anatomy.  This includes transferal and photographing of images, archiving post, processing multiplanar, 3D vascular and/or 3D reconstructions and performing appropriate protocols.  This position also performs radiographer duties of operation of ionizing radiation producing equipment for diagnostic radiographic purposes in accordance with physician’s orders, protocols and quality standards as established by the department and facility. The position may work on rotating shifts, with work on weekends and holidays and may require standby and call back duty.

JOB DUTIES: The Dietetic Technician provides food and nutrition services to patients under the supervision of a registered dietitian (RD). Primary responsibilities may include: nutrition screening and participation in the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) as determined by the RD for nutrition assessment; conduct Patient and Resident Meal Rounds; represent Dietary department at meetings; develop nutritional plans; documenting medical, food, and nutrition-related data; interviewing patient/resident and/or family members to obtain food preferences and create house or computer meal tickets; reviewing patient menus for conformance to diet order; providing individualized or group nutrition education; monitoring meal, snack and/or medical food intake to contribute to evaluation of the patient’s progress and revision of intervention/plan of care, if indicated; monitoring the quality and accuracy of food served to patient.

The Dietetic Technician may also assist with and/or supervise the setting up of trays for patients; assuring accuracy of menus with patient diet orders; preparation of nourishments, tube feedings, and other foods for tray service; Quality assurance checks; and performs other duties as assigned. QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE: Possession of the required amount of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for the position.  STEPS TO AN ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW, SUBSEQUENT APPEALS: If you do not agree with a decision made by the Employment Office as to your non-qualification or non-selection for a position, you may complete a Request for Administrative Review form (available on the HHSC website) or you may submit a written request within twenty (20) days from the date of your sent notice to the Regional Chief Executive Officer/Designee. Your letter requesting the Administrative Review must include 1. The job title(s) and recruitment number(s), 2. the specific reason(s) you are requesting the review noting if there is a statute or rule violation, and 3. any additional information you want to submit to substantiate your request. If you do not submit your request within the twenty (20) days deadline, no Administrative Review will be conducted. Since the Administrative Review is a prerequisite to subsequent steps, failure to utilize this process will make you ineligible for subsequent appeals. The administrative review, formal complaint and/or appeals hearing will not necessarily postpone the recruitment process and/or rescind a selection.

If you do not agree with the Administrative Review, you may file a Formal Complaint and then, if you are still not satisfied, you can appeal to the HHSC Merit Appeals Board.
