Kona Community Hospital (KCH) kicked off the holidays with their annual Pumpkin Contest today, October 29. Hospital departments and their creative staff competed in this popular employee tradition by carving and decorating pumpkins to hopefully take home a prize from one of the six contest categories. With over 400 employees, the Pumpkin Contest has become a very celebrated event over the years, demonstrating the creativity and warm, aloha spirit of all the cheerful staff at KCH. Judy Donovan, Marketing and Communications Director, loves organizing the event and watching the contest unfold, from planning to decorating to taking home a grand prize.
This year, the six categories for the pumpkin contest were funniest, scariest, health care, aloha spirit, most original, and people’s choice. Many departments try and incorporate health awareness into their display, such as flu season and breast cancer awareness, showing off their creativity and fusion between health and holiday spirit.
