SALARY RANGE: Negotiable (SR20, BU13)

JOB DUTIES: The Computed Tomography (CT) Specialist III performs CT procedures and also is responsible to perform tasks as daily work flow organization, following work schedules, and as performing CT procedures for cross-sectional imaging of human anatomy.  This includes transferal of images, post archiving, processing and performing appropriate protocols. This position performs duties of operation with CT for diagnostic purposes in accordance with Physician’s orders, protocols and quality standards as established by the department and facility.  The position may work on rotating shifts, extended workdays with work on weekends and holidays.  May require standby call and call back duty.

MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7.

THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree from an approved program recognized by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) (relevant substitutions allowed).

Excess work experience as described below in the experience requirement section or any other responsible professional work experience; which provided knowledge, skills and abilities comparable to those acquired in four (4) years of successful study while completing a college or university curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree in may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

To be acceptable, the experience must have been of such scope, level and quality as to assure the possession of comparable knowledge, skills and abilities.

EXPERIENCE: Imaging Experience:  One-and-one-half (1 ½) years of progressively responsible professional imaging technologist/specialist experience which demonstrated a thorough knowledge of imaging procedures and/or techniques such as myelograms, discograms, arthrograms, etc., including the X-raying of such areas of the human anatomy as the chest, skull, gastro-intestinal tract, urinary tract, and vascular system.

Specialized Experience:  One-half year (1/2) year of progressively responsible professional work experience as a specialist in computed tomography in a clinical or hospital environment (Relevant substitutions allowed).

CERTIFICATION: A current American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiography (R). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Health Care Worker required at the time of appointment.

LICENSURE: A current State of Hawaii Radiologic Technologist license as a radiographer.

DESIRED SKILLS: Demonstrated proficiency in the application of all of the knowledge and abilities in the operations CT equipment, human anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical terminology; positioning patient and appropriate scanning techniques. Knowledge of CT equipment, radiation physics/CT physics, radiation safety, CT protocols, standard precautions, hospital policies and procedures, rules and regulations, government regulatory requirements and accrediting standards and perform the full range of services to the patients independent of supervision.

Knowledge of multiple/differing cultures; oral and written communications skills; good observation skills, ability to recall and report /document a series  of events accurately; presents a positive attitude  at all times even under stress.  Handles stress well.  Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient.

Code of Ethics:  Ability to meet the specific needs of patients with a variety of disabilities; retain emotional stability and maturity despite emotional and physical pressures; demonstrated ability to use independent judgment and initiative.  Ability to promote a positive, collaborative practice atmosphere.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical Requirements:   All employees must be physically able to perform efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.

Hazards:  May be exposed to infectious diseases or hazardous substances.  Exposure to magnetic/radiation hazards on a daily basis.

Required Forms & Documentation: Evidence of the appropriate training (e.g., official transcript or degree) to be given credit for education and/or experience. A legible photocopy will be accepted; however, Kona Community Hospital reserves the right to request an official copy.

 STEPS TO AN ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW, SUBSEQUENT APPEALS: If you do not agree with a decision made by the Employment Office as to your non-qualification or non-selection for a position, you may complete a Request for Administrative Review form (available on the HHSC website) or you may submit a written request within twenty (20) days from the date of your sent notice to the Regional Chief Executive Officer/Designee. Your letter requesting the Administrative Review must include 1. The job title(s) and recruitment number(s), 2. the specific reason(s) you are requesting the review noting if there is a statute or rule violation, and 3. any additional information you want to submit to substantiate your request. If you do not submit your request within the twenty (20) days deadline, no Administrative Review will be conducted. Since the Administrative Review is a prerequisite to subsequent steps, failure to utilize this process will make you ineligible for subsequent appeals. The administrative review, formal complaint and/or appeals hearing will not necessarily postpone the recruitment process and/or rescind a selection.
