FUNCTION AND LOCATION: The Registered Professional Nurse III coordinates nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with other staff and departments in maintaining standards of nursing care; follows established policies, procedures or specific instructions.  MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7.

The Minimum Qualification Requirements Are: To qualify, you must meet all the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Education Requirement: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.  While not required, graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is highly desirable. 

Experience Requirement: One-half (1/2) year of progressively responsible professional nursing work experience in labor and delivery with mother/baby couplet care where the employee independently provided nursing care to patients.  Such experience must have been gained within the last two (2) years.

Certification:  Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Workers, and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required at the time of appointment;  Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab work, Emotional Support (STABLE) and Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring is preferred.  Please submit copies of certifications with the application.

License: Possession of a current license to practice as a registered professional nurse in the State of Hawaii.

FUNCTION AND LOCATION: This position works in the surgery unit/operating room of a hospital and performs a variety of technical duties as a scrub technician and is considered a member of the surgical team. The incumbent of the position is required to report to work within 30 minutes of receiving call while on standby or call back duty.  MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY, BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7.

Experience and Essential Knowledge and Abilities:

  • One (1) year of work experience which involved instrument trays. Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of decontamination and sterilization procedures; aseptic techniques; universal precautions and safety procedures; maintenance and care of equipment; names of surgical equipment; and the ability to assist in the preparation of surgical patients and assist and participate in the activities of the surgical team. Substitutions Allowed: Graduation from a nationally certified training program for Operating Room Technician, Surgical Technician, or equivalent may be substituted for this experience.
  • In addition to the one (1) year of experience mentioned above, applicants must also have one (1) year of work experience in a surgical setting receiving on-the-job training which provided knowledge of surgical procedures and instruments required; and involved applying the knowledge gained by performing as a scrub technician for progressively more complicated surgical procedures. Such experience must also have demonstrated the ability to independently perform as a member of the sterile team, which involves preparing patients (i.e., shaving, draping, etc.) and the operating room for procedures.

Kohala Hospital is a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) located in the rural town of Kapaau (North Kohala).  We opened our doors to patients on April 1, 1917.  At that time, it was a 14-bed facility.  The cost of hospitalization at that time was $1.50 per day.  In 1962, Kohala Hospital was relocated into a structure consisting of 26 inpatient beds providing both long-term and short-term acute care.  Today, Kohala Hospital employs 55 employees and provides 24-hr emergency care, laboratory services, radiology services, and Skilled Nursing & Intermediate Care to our community.

JOB DUTIES:  The RPN III, Educational Coordinator is primarily responsible for running the American Heart Association (AHA) Training Center. This position is also responsible for conducting a variety of specific training, and staff development programs for the clinical and non-clinical personnel consistent with regulatory requirements, policies and procedures and needs of the organization to develop and maintain employee awareness of customer service relations and personal growth. JOB DUTIES:  The Painter I performs highly skilled task in painting low voc, oils and water based paints, varnishing, stains, enamels, epoxy’s or lacquer to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimming, and fixtures of the hospital. Must also be able to perform wall coverings, RFP vinyl sheets and trim installation and repair; assist other Maintenance employees on special projects; and performs other duties as assigned. One (1) year of work experience as a physical therapy assistant which involved the performance of physical therapy work and related duties under the direction of a Physical Therapist. Kohala Hospital is a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) located in the rural town of Kapaau (North Kohala).  We opened our doors to patients on April 1, 1917.  At that time, it was a 14-bed facility.  The cost of hospitalization at that time was $1.50 per day.  In 1962, Kohala Hospital was relocated into a structure consisting of 26 inpatient beds providing both long-term and short-term acute care.  Today, Kohala Hospital employs 55 employees and provides 24-hr emergency care, laboratory services, radiology services, and Skilled Nursing & Intermediate Care to our community.

JOB DUTIES: This position works in the respiratory therapy unit of a hospital and exercises considerable independent clinical judgment in applying scientific knowledge and theory to practical respiratory care problems in accordance with physicians’ orders. The position is responsible for independently administering respiratory tests and treatment to patients with respiratory diseases and disorders including cases involving critically ill, pediatric, and neonatal patients. The position may be required to work on shifts, including evenings, and weekends and holidays.  MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Prerequisite Qualifications Required for the Full Performance Level:

Education and Essential Knowledge and Abilities: Graduation from high school and two (2) years progressively responsible, full-time clinical work experience in a respiratory therapy program or services under licensed medical supervision. The work must have involved such duties as administering treatment procedures in medical gas therapy, humidity therapy, post-operative techniques, pulmonary functions, blood gas analysis, critical care, cardiopulmonary pathophysiology and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, including various types of respiratory therapy equipment, monitoring patients during treatments, charting observations and procedures, cleaning and sterilizing respiratory therapy equipment and performing operational maintenance, and performing or participating in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Experience and Essential Knowledge and Abilities: One (1) year of progressively responsible clinical work experience which demonstrated competence in independently administering treatment and/or testing procedures in pulmonary functions, blood gas analysis, critical care including mechanical ventilation, and pediatric/neonatal respiratory care.

Substitutions allowed: Completion of a four (4) year college or university accredited program in respiratory therapy resulting in a Bachelor of Science degree may be substituted for all of the required experience.

Certification Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Unit Preference is BLS at the time of appointment.

Desirable Qualifications: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) recognized by the National Board of Respiratory Care or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRTT) recognized by the National Board of Respiratory Care.

Preferred Certifications: Hawaii Respiratory Therapist (RT) license with the Department of Commerce and Consumer affairs (DCCA); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS); Pediatric Advances Life Support (PALS); and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
