JOB DUTIES:  This position is located in the Nursing Administration Unit of the Patient Care Services Section of Kona Community Hospital (KCH), a 94 bed acute care facility located on the island of Hawaii, serving as the West Hawaii Regional Center.  This position is responsible for providing direct patient care through the performance of a variety of nursing support tasks in accordance with established methods and procedures. The position may work on rotating shifts and in a variety of care units (e.g., SNF, ICF, medical, surgical, etc.).  The position may also provide home care for patients.  MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7.

Education: Graduation from high school preferred or equivalent.

ENTRY LEVEL:

Certification Required: Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required at the time of appointment.

Knowledge of:  Personal hygiene and bodily care.

Ability to:  Read, write, speak and understand simple sentences in English; follow oral and written instructions precisely; get along well with others; acquire and demonstrate an attitude of respect toward patients with a variety of disabilities; retain emotional stability despite emotional and physical pressures; develop an appreciation of nursing and medical ethics.

JOB DUTIES: The Air Conditioning Mechanic II is primarily involved in the installation, inspection, operation, overhaul and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment. Other duties include performing maintenance and repair on heat, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and working on projects including work requiring the use of plumbing, painting, welding, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic and mechanical equipment and performing other duties as assigned.  This position may be subject to on-call duties.

JOB DUTIES: The Training & Development Coordinator is responsible for conducting  non-clinical training to meet competency assessment requirements; coordinating education programs for healthcare personnel; reviewing, analyzing, evaluating, or promoting improvement in organizational development, reviewing best practices for implementing training of policies and procedures such as compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements for hospitals; developing curricula, programs, education, and training materials; assessing training needs through surveys, interviews with employees, focus groups, or consultation with managers; may specialize in a particular subject or training program such as leadership, supervisory/management training, team building, or customer service; and other aspects designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness in achieving the program objectives of the facility/region served. JOB DUTIES: The Registered Professional Nurse III (Trauma P.I. Specialist) assists with implementation of KCH’s Trauma Performance Improvement Plan. Duties include assisting the Trauma Program Medical Director (TMD) and the Trauma Program Manager (TPM) to improve the quality of trauma care with an effective continuous performance improvement and patient safety program and perform other duties as assigned.

Performance Improvement Activities                                                          

  1. Works with the Trauma Medical Director (TMD) and the Trauma Program Manager (TPM) to study, plan, implement and evaluate trauma care to assure adherence to the Trauma Performance Improvement Patient Safety Program through clinical review of both concurrent and retrospective chart review specific to trauma patients.
  2. Conducts patient rounds while utilizing clinical expertise to aggregate, assess and interpret information in order to evaluate the quality of clinical care, review of appropriate services and adherence to KCH Standards of care and the Hawaii State Trauma Standards.
  3. Reviews patient occurrences, user defined indicators, and audit filters with Trauma registrar and validate data on a concurrent bases.
  4. Responsible for issue identification, issue validation, issue analyses, and initiates follow-up to assure loop closure to improve clinical outcomes and patient care.
  5. Provides concurrent feedback and issue resolution to the TMD and the TPM.

Trauma PI Data Management             

    1. Collects, tracks and benchmarks trauma PI issues related to patient care and system development.
    2. Correlates outcomes and PI findings with trauma registry data for adherence to trauma registry criteria, accuracy, and inter-relater reliability.
    3. Updates PI issues in trauma registry database on a daily basis using concurrent and retrospective review of patient care.
    4. Assists in the preparation of any PI documents and reports as requested by KCH committees Hawaii State Trauma System, TMD, TPM, or hospital administration.
    5. Ensure that all pertinent issues are entered into the registry as they occur.
    6. Describe all pertinent details of each issue in an agreed upon format
    7. Tracks loop closure/resolution in the trauma registry.

Education and Outreach                                                                               

  1. Assists the TPM in the planning and evaluating both internal and external trauma related educational programs.
  2. Identify areas for improvement and education, using trauma PI data to develop educational programs in conjunction with TPM to address quality issues identified in the trauma program.
  3. Assists with community outreach and injury prevention activities related to trauma.
  4. Attends outside conferences and meetings pertinent to job responsibilities.

 Trauma Committee Activities             

  1. Serves as an active member of trauma specific committees.
  2. Participate in the Trauma Program Operational Process Performance Committee (Trauma Multi-Disciplinary Meetings). Providing input to the agenda and reporting on significant trends, issues and outstanding items.
  3. Assists with the selection and preparation of the cases for review for the Performance Improvement Patient Safety (PIPS) meetings in collaboration with TMD and TPM.

The cost for all physical examinations, except the cost for the drug screening, shall be borne by the applicant and not the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation. The Hawaii Health Systems Corporation shall bear the cost of the drug screening.

CRIMINAL/BACKGROUND, CREDENTIALING CHECKS: Applicable checks will be conducted periodically and any associated costs may be borne by the applicant. If a job offer is made or employment is begun prior to completion of all applicable checks, any offer of employment or continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory return of all required checks.

STEPS TO AN ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW, SUBSEQUENT APPEALS: If you do not agree with a decision made by the Employment Office as to your non-qualification or non-selection for a position, you may complete a Request for Administrative Review form (available on the HHSC website) or you may submit a written request within twenty (20) days from the date of your sent notice to the Regional Chief Executive Officer/Designee. Your letter requesting the Administrative Review must include 1. The job title(s) and recruitment number(s), 2. The specific reason(s) you are requesting the review noting if there is a statute or rule violation, and 3. Any additional information you want to submit to substantiate your request. If you do not submit your request within the twenty (20) days deadline, no Administrative Review will be conducted. Since the Administrative Review is a prerequisite to subsequent steps, failure to utilize this process will make you ineligible for subsequent appeals. The administrative review, formal complaint and/or appeals hearing will not necessarily postpone the recruitment process and/or rescind a selection.

If you do not agree with the Administrative Review, you may file a Formal Complaint and then, if you are still not satisfied, you can appeal to the HHSC Merit Appeals Board.
