JOB DUTIES: The Respiratory Therapy Unit provides diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory therapy services to hospital patients, and provides training for hospital and medical staff.

The Respiratory Therapist IV is responsible for managing the Respiratory Therapy Department. This position is also responsible for supervising Respiratory Therapists and Technicians. The position also has responsibilities in budget preparation, equipment ordering and maintenance, supplies requisitioning, etc. This position also coordinates the overall needs, program, and quality of service provision of all of the above stated area of service. These include, but are not limited to, needs assessment, program development, quality assurance, budget development and monitoring, and personnel management. The individual, as a working supervisor, must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed by the adolescent (11-18 years), adult (19-64 years), and geriatric (65 years plus) patient groups.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE:  Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.

EDUCATION: Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree in respiratory therapy form a school of respiratory therapy approved at the time of graduation by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) or the Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

Substitutions Allowed: An associate degree in respiratory therapy from a program approved at the time of graduation by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care, (CoARC), or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and two (2) years of professional experience as a Respiratory Therapist under medical supervision may substitute for a baccalaureate degree in respiratory therapy.

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of professional experience as a Respiratory Therapist under medical supervision. The experience must have equipped the applicant with a full professional understanding of the evaluation, testing, and treatment of respiratory therapy problems and the ability to develop and modify individual patient care plans.

LICENSURE:  A valid license with the State of Hawaii as a Respiratory Therapist at the time of appointment.

CERTIFICATION: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is required within six (6) months of employment.

DESIRED SKILLS:

Knowledge of Respiratory Therapy principles and practices, departmental rules and regulations, hospital policies and procedures, Medicare/Medicaid/ the Joint Commission and other regulated guidelines for the provision of Respiratory Therapy services. The provision of respiratory services, general union contract agreement practices and general principles of management, supervision, and public relations. JOB DUTIES: The Diagnostic Imaging Services Unit provides and manages the medical diagnostic imaging services to provide technical information and assistance to the physician for diagnosis and treatment

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging Lead (MRI Lead) performs the most difficult of special procedures in magnetic resonance imaging and also is responsible to perform lead duties such as daily work flow organization, preparing work schedules, and training new employee as well as performing clinical diagnostic magnetic resonance imaging and other procedures associated with the production of MRI images utilizing standard or modified imaging techniques in accordance with physician’s written ordered procedures, protocols and quality standards as established by the department or facility. This includes transferal of images, post archiving, processing, multiplanar, 3D vascular and/or 3D reconstructions and performing appropriate protocols. This position also performs radiographer duties such as operation of ionizing radiation producing equipment for diagnostic radiographic purposes in accordance with physician’s orders, protocols and quality standards as established by the department and facility. The position may work on rotating shifts, with work on week days, extended weekdays, weekends and holidays. This position may require standby call and call back duty.

 EXPERIENCE:

Imaging Experience: One-and-one-half (1 ½) years of progressively responsible professional imaging technologist/specialist experience which demonstrated a thorough knowledge of imaging procedures and/or techniques such as myelograms, discograms, arthrograms, etc., including the X-raying of such areas of the human anatomy as the chest, skull, gastro-intestinal tract, urinary tract, and vascular system.

Specialized Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional work experience as a specialist in magnetic resonance imaging in a clinical or hospital environment.

CERTIFICATION:

  1. A current American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiography (R).
  2. Advanced Certification: A current American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) or current American Registry of Magnetic Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT).
  3. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Health Care Worker required at the time of appointment.

JOB DUTIES: The position is located in the Dietary unit, Ancillary Services section of Kona Community Hospital. The Dietary unit is responsible for all food and beverage services of the hospital. This includes staff operations, receipt, storage, and inventory of food supplies, menu planning and food preparation, budget, nutritional assessment of patient care and patient education, and preparing necessary reports relating to food service.

This position is responsible for patients’ nutritional care according to current nutrition principles and for providing education to patients, their families and hospital personnel.

JOB DUTIES: This position is responsible for performing a wide range of clerical functions where some originating and planning of work are called for. The position will perform moderately complex to highly complex clerical functions in product ordering, records management and data input services, as well as, cashiering duties for the department. The position will maintain payroll records assuring that time sheets are appropriately completed, assists the department with clerical tasks and record keeping and performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE:  Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.

JOB DUTIESThe Registered Professional Nurse VI, Nurse Manager, has 24-hour responsibility and accountability for the management and operational activities of the Intensive Care Unit. Primary responsibility is to plan, organize, and control the budget, material resources, capital resources as well as all clinical and non-clinical functions within the unit; and assures the provision of a safe and therapeutic environment complete with medications, supplies and equipment necessary in the quality performance of patient care services. In addition, this position will determine staffing methodology, directs and coordinates the staff activities, monitors staff performance, assures competencies and provides for the educational needs of all staff members. The Nurse Manager is responsible for compliance in areas of policies, procedures, and standards of intensive nursing services and performs other duties as assigned. This position may be required to work shifts, weekends, and holidays. The incumbent may be also required to care for patients in the ICU.

In order to effectively perform the duties and responsibilities of the Intensive Care Registered Professional Nurse VI (Nurse Manager), the incumbent of this position must have extensive knowledge of Intensive Care unit procedures and must be able to perform staff Registered Nurse duties.

SELECTIVE CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional nursing work experience in an intensive care setting where the employee independently provided nursing care to patients. Such experience must have been gained within the last two (2) years.

SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of professional nursing experience which included: (1) planning and directing the work of others; (2) assigning and reviewing their work; (3) advising them on difficult problem areas; (4) timing and scheduling their work; and (5) training and developing employees.

CERTIFICATION: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Health Care worker must be obtained within six (6) months of employment; Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) are preferred.

LICENSE:  Possession of a current license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii at the time of appointment.

JOB LOCATION:  KONA COMMUNITY HOSPITAL – Dietary

SALARY RANGE: $2,722 PER MO (SR-10; BU:03)

JOB DUTIES: This position is responsible for performing a wide range of clerical functions where some originating and planning of work are called for. The position will perform moderately complex to highly complex clerical functions in product ordering, records management and data input services, as well as, cashiering duties for the department. The position will maintain payroll records assuring that time sheets are appropriately completed, assists the department with clerical tasks and record keeping and performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE:  Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.

EDUCATION: None required. High school graduate preferred.

 EXPERIENCE: Two and one-half (2 ½) years of clerical work experience which involved the performance of a variety of clerical tasks and demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, spelling, arithmetic, common office appliances and equipment (e.g., copying machines, word processors, etc.); and the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, carry out procedures in clerical work systems, communicate effectively orally and in writing; deal tactfully with others; operate common office equipment; and organize and prioritize work tasks.

Supervisory Aptitude: Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion or regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisor skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
