SALARY RANGE: Entry $21.32/hr. (HE04, BU10) or Full Performance $22.98/hr. (HE06, BU10)
JOB DUTIES: This position works in Surgical Service Sterile Processing of a Kona Community hospital and provides support to the surgery crew. A Sterile Processing Technician, is responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispended by the department following infection and control practices and ensures client satisfaction while also adhering to the highest quality and compliance standards. The position may be required to work on shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays and call.
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7.
THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.
Prerequisite Qualifications Required for the Entry Level:
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of work experience in a surgical setting where the primary or basic objective was to provide support to a surgery crew. Such experience must have provided knowledge of decontamination and sterilization procedures; aseptic techniques; universal precautions and safety procedures; maintenance and care of equipment; names of surgical equipment; setting up instrument trays; applicable hospital/facility/program policies and procedures; and the ability to independently decontaminate and sterilize surgical instruments and set up instrument trays; and assist and participate in the activities of the surgical team. Must have basic knowledge of medical/surgical procedure and terminology and the ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate effectively with others in English; listen to and follow oral and written instructions precisely; and get along well with others.

Such experience must have provided knowledge of decontamination and sterilization procedures; aseptic techniques; universal precautions and safety procedures; maintenance and care of equipment; names of surgical equipment; setting up instrument trays; applicable hospital/facility/program policies and procedures; and the ability to independently decontaminate and sterilize surgical instruments and set up instrument trays; and assist and participate in the activities of the surgical team. Must have knowledge of medical/surgical procedure and terminology and the ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate effectively with others in English; listen to and follow oral and written instructions precisely; and get along well with others.
Graduation from a nationally certified training program for Operating Room Technician, Surgical Technician or equivalent may be substituted for one year of work experience.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in a science related field (e.g. biology, human anatomy, forensic, physics, etc.) may be substituted for up to six (6) months of work experience.
CERTIFICATION: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) certification by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) is required within 12 months of employment for the entry level and is required at time of employment for the full performance level.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees must be physically able to perform the essential duties of the position. The general types of physical abilities involved, and examples of the tasks requiring these abilities, follows:
|Sensory: Read handwritten or typewritten instrument tray listings; distinguish shapes, colors and shades of color of surgical instruments; hear the conversational voice.|
|Coordination and Dexterity: Manipulative skills to wrap/unwrap surgical instruments.|
|Strength and Stamina: Lift and carry instrument trays up to twenty-five (25) pounds; stand/walk for long periods of time.|
|Mobility: Transport patients; move around in cramped quarters; bend when stocking supplies.|
|Other: Work with a variety of cleaning chemicals; decontaminate objects containing blood and tissue.|
Required Forms & Documentation: Evidence of the appropriate training (e.g., official transcript or degree) to be given credit for education and/or experience. A legible photocopy will be accepted; however, Kona Community Hospital reserves the right to request an official copy.

STEPS TO AN ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW, SUBSEQUENT APPEALS: If you do not agree with a decision made by the Employment Office as to your non-qualification or non-selection for a position, you may complete a Request for Administrative Review form (available on the HHSC website) or you may submit a written request within twenty (20) days from the date of your sent notice to the Regional Chief Executive Officer/Designee. Your letter requesting the Administrative Review must include 1. The job title(s) and recruitment number(s), 2. the specific reason(s) you are requesting the review noting if there is a statute or rule violation, and 3. any additional information you want to submit to substantiate your request. If you do not submit your request within the twenty (20) days deadline, no Administrative Review will be conducted. Since the Administrative Review is a prerequisite to subsequent steps, failure to utilize this process will make you ineligible for subsequent appeals. The administrative review, formal complaint and/or appeals hearing will not necessarily postpone the recruitment process and/or rescind a selection.
