PAY AMOUNT: NEGOTIABLE

JOB DUTIES:  The Medical Oncologist specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of cancer and other benign and malignant tumors. This specialist diagnoses and administers chemotherapy, as well as consults with surgeons and other Oncologists on other treatments for cancer.  This position may be required to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.  MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7.

The Minimum Qualification Requirements are: To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Education: Successful completion of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) accredited post-graduate training program in internal medicine and successful completion of an accredited training program in oncology.

Applicants for initial appointment must be able to demonstrate that (s)he has provided inpatient, outpatient, or consultative services for at least 24 patients during the past 12 months or demonstrate successful completion of a hospital-affiliated accredited residency, special clinical fellowship or research.

Membership and Privileges: Initial and continued membership on the Medical Staff of Kona Community Hospital Staff with general surgical privileges.

Experience: None required if educational and Medical Staff membership requirements met.

Certification: Current certification in oncology the American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine with Special Qualifications in oncology.

Licensure/Registration: Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii.  Current registration with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and a current State Controlled Substance license with the State of Hawaii Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Narcotics Enforcement Division (NED).

Required Forms And Documentation: Applicants must submit evidence of the appropriate training (e.g. official transcript or diploma) to be given credit for education.  A legible photocopy will be accepted; however, Hawaii Health Systems Corporation reserves the right to request an official copy.
