MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree from an approved program recognized by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Excess work experience as described below in the experience requirement section or any other responsible professional work experience; which provided knowledge, skills and abilities comparable to those acquired in four (4) years of successful study while completing a college or university curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree in may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
To be acceptable, the experience must have been of such scope, level and quality as to assure the possession of comparable knowledge, skills and abilities.
EXPERIENCE: Imaging Experience: One-and-one-half (1 ½) years of progressively responsible professional imaging technologist/specialist experience which demonstrated a thorough knowledge of imaging procedures and/or techniques such as myelograms, discograms, arthrograms, etc., including the X-raying of such areas of the human anatomy as the chest, skull, gastro-intestinal tract, urinary tract, and vascular system.
Specialized Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible professional work experience as a specialist in radiation therapy in a clinical or hospital environment.
CERTIFICATION: A current American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy – ARRT (T). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Health Care Worker required at the time of appointment.
LICENSE: A current State of Hawaii Radiologic Technologist license as a Radiation Therapist.
DESIRED SKILLS: Demonstrated proficiency in the application of all of the knowledge and abilities in the operations of radiation oncology equipment; medical anatomy, physiology pathology, pharmacology and medical terminology; positioning patient and appropriate techniques. Knowledge of Radiation physics, safety and protocols, standard precautions, hospital policies and procedures, rules and regulations, government regulatory requirements and accrediting standards, perform the full range of services to the patients of the work site, independently. Knowledge of the policies, procedures and work rules of the work site
Ability to operate and understand all functions of various radiation equipment and software to produce adequate simulation under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist and Physicist staff. Ability to perform simulation procedures, fabrication of immobilization devices, beam shaping devices, i.e., cerrobend blocks and protection devices, radiation therapy treatments and procedures. Ability to appropriately handle emergency situations in a calm and effective manner. Communicates effectively with all customer service groups.
Knowledge of multiple/differing cultures; oral and written communication skills; good observation skills and ability to recall and report/document a series of events accurately; positive attitude.
Code of Ethics: ability to meet the specific needs of patients with a variety of disabilities; retain emotional stability and maturity despite emotional and physical pressures; demonstrated ability to use independent judgment and initiative. Ability to promote a positive, collaborative practice atmosphere.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees must be physically able to perform efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily. Hazards: May be exposed to infectious diseases or hazardous substances. Exposure to magnetic/radiation hazards on a daily basis.

MERIT OR CIVIL SERVICE SYSTEM: Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirements, including education, experience, other public employment requirements for State Civil Service employment, and HHSC Standards of Fitness. PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENT: Offers of employment will be conditioned on the results of a complete physical examination, which includes a drug screening. STEPS TO AN ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW, SUBSEQUENT APPEALS: If you do not agree with a decision made by the Employment Office as to your non-qualification or non-selection for a position, you may complete a Request for Administrative Review form (available on the HHSC website) or you may submit a written request within twenty (20) days from the date of your sent notice to the Regional Chief Executive Officer/Designee. Your letter requesting the Administrative Review must include 1. The job title(s) and recruitment number(s), 2. the specific reason(s) you are requesting the review noting if there is a statute or rule violation, and 3. any additional information you want to submit to substantiate your request. If you do not submit your request within the twenty (20) days deadline, no Administrative Review will be conducted. Since the Administrative Review is a prerequisite to subsequent steps, failure to utilize this process will make you ineligible for subsequent appeals. The administrative review, formal complaint and/or appeals hearing will not necessarily postpone the recruitment process and/or rescind a selection.
