JOB LOCATION: KONA COMMUNITY HOSPITAL – Nursing Float

SALARY RANGEHUC I: $3,318 (@90% $2,986.20/month)  (SR11, BU03)  or   HUC  II:  $3,589(@90% $3,230.10/month) (SR13, BU03)

JOB DUTIES: This position is part of the nursing team who coordinates the activities in a nursing unit which include performing a variety of administrative tasks directly and indirectly related to patient care; and performs other related duties as required. This position is required to work shifts, weekends, and holidays and float to other units.

MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7.

THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.

HEALTH UNIT COORDINATOR I REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:

  • Graduation from high school or GED preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • General Clerical Experience:  Two (2) years of work experience which involved the performance of a variety of clerical tasks such as typing, substantive clerical work, or any combination of these experiences which duties demonstrated knowledge of English grammar; spelling; arithmetic; common office appliances and equipment (e.g., copying machines, word processors, etc.); and the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions; carry out procedures in clerical work systems, communicate effectively orally and in writing; deal tactfully with others; operate common office equipment; and organize and prioritize work tasks.

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Employee must work with other people, both patients, and co-workers in a manner as to be productive in obtaining patient care goals and being time efficient. Must have good working knowledge of the use and application of all equipment to provide Physical Therapy services.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing as evidenced by accurate, concise and objective documentation of findings and report. Ability to anticipate what will be required or needed to effectively and efficiently complete assigned duties and responsibilities.

DESIRED SKILLS:

Ability to manage multiple priorities amid numerous interruptions and recognize and respond to priorities in the patient care process such as transcription of physician orders; and to work proficiently in crisis and emergency situations. Knowledge of medical terminology which demonstrates comprehension for the processing of requisitions for diagnostic examinations & medications.

HEALTH UNIT COORDINATOR II REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:

  • Graduation from high school or GED preferred.

  • Specialized Experience:  One (1) year of work experience in a health care setting (e.g., hospital, clinic, physician’s office, etc.) which involved working with healthcare professionals such as physician and/or nurses and receiving, coordinating, expediting and/or implementing their patient care orders, inputting of data into a computer system, preparing and maintenance of medical records and/or work experience in an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system or similar application.  Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology through the application of such knowledge to work assignments.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.

All applicants must possess emotional and mental stability appropriate to the job duties and responsibilities and working conditions.

Position must be flexible to work rotating shifts, holidays and oncology clinic days which may last ten hours.

 STEPS TO AN ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW, SUBSEQUENT APPEALS: If you do not agree with a decision made by the Employment Office as to your non-qualification or non-selection for a position, you may complete a Request for Administrative Review form (available on the HHSC website) or you may submit a written request within twenty (20) days from the date of your sent notice to the Regional Chief Executive Officer/Designee. Your letter requesting the Administrative Review must include 1. The job title(s) and recruitment number(s), 2. the specific reason(s) you are requesting the review noting if there is a statute or rule violation, and 3. any additional information you want to submit to substantiate your request. If you do not submit your request within the twenty (20) days deadline, no Administrative Review will be conducted. Since the Administrative Review is a prerequisite to subsequent steps, failure to utilize this process will make you ineligible for subsequent appeals. The administrative review, formal complaint and/or appeals hearing will not necessarily postpone the recruitment process and/or rescind a selection.

If you do not agree with the Administrative Review, you may file a Formal Complaint and then, if you are still not satisfied, you can appeal to the HHSC Merit Appeals Board.
