JOB DUTIES: The function of this organizational unit is to serve as the liaison between the Regional CEO and the Medical Staff and all hospitals in the system; oversee all clinical and related activities of the hospital. The position of Chief Medical Officer is an experienced physician leader who effectively provides liaison between the medical staff and hospital/corporate administration. The position carries the full authority for overseeing all clinical and medical activities of the hospital/medical center.
As a member of the hospital management team, the Chief Medical Officer is the driver of clinical quality improvement, especially concerning medical staff involvement, and is always attentive to the concerns of the medical staff. One of his/her primary functions is to oversee evaluation and management of the clinical practices within the hospital.
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO WORK SHIFTS AS NECESSARY BASED ON HOSPITAL OPERATIONS; SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 24/7.
The Minimum Qualification Requirements are:
Education: M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited college of medicine or osteopathy, completed an approved residency
Experience: Five (5) years full-time clinical practice after residency required. Advanced degree/certification in business, medical management, or similar field (MBA, MMM, MHA, MPH, etc.) is advantageous. Four or more years of progressive senior leadership experience in a hospital or health system. Clinical risk management experience. Experience with hospital medical staff credentials and peer review activities required. Experience managing physician performance in a hospital and group setting preferred. Development and implementation of quality improvement programs. Experience and training in the development and operation of a high-reliability organization is advantageous. From 3-5 years of building relationships between employed, contracted, and private practice physicians and between hospitals and ambulatory operations with results measured across the continuum of care through patient, employee, and physician satisfaction scores and related action plans, including physician performance data (FPPE, OPPE).
Necessary Skills: A solid grasp of hospital finance and the ability to effectively participate and collaborate in strategic planning initiatives, including new programs and clinical services. Contemporary knowledge of health care laws, Joint Commission standards and accreditation, hospital rules and bylaws, state licensing, medical staff bylaws, rules, regulations and policies, and relevant payor requirements in medical practice within an acute care hospital setting.
Demonstrated ability to gain medical staff support when developing, implementing, and promoting projects, ventures, and programs. Working knowledge with utilization management and level of care determinations. Requires technical skills to review and oversee electronic health records and electronic credentialing software. Effective written and verbal communication, negotiation, interpersonal conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to effectively interact with a diverse population and assess community needs for population health initiatives. Knowledge of leading quality measurement, monitoring and improvement programs, risk management, and utilization review. Personal computer skills preferred (i.e., spreadsheet use; presentation program; and word processing).
Certification: Board Certified preferred
Licensure: Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii.

The job title(s) and recruitment number(s), 2. the specific reason(s) you are requesting the review noting if there is a statute or rule violation, and 3. any additional information you want to submit to substantiate your request. If you do not submit your request within the twenty (20) days deadline, no Administrative Review will be conducted. Since the Administrative Review is a prerequisite to subsequent steps, failure to utilize this process will make you ineligible for subsequent appeals. The administrative review, formal complaint and/or appeals hearing will not necessarily postpone the recruitment process and/or rescind a selection.
