Kona Community Hospital’s fourth annual Ladies Night Out event is scheduled for Friday, June 3, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa. This year’s theme is “Take an Adventure with Us.” All ladies are invited to attend this free community event. It is a local opportunity for the women ofWest Hawaii to spend an evening taking care of themselves in a fun and social way. Last year boasted over 500 attendees, and it keeps getting bigger and better.
The event will feature complimentary services and information such as blood pressure checks, cholesterol testing, glucose screening, heart disease information, cancer awareness, and more. Volunteer services of haircuts, manicures, massage, skin care, and make-up consultations will be available. There will also be live entertainment, games, and door prizes. A healthy light dinner will be provided for a small fee.
“This is a chance for women to take time out of their busy lives and think about their health,” commented Kathryn Harter, Kona Community Hospital’s Chief Nurse Executive. “Our community is full of resources and services and this is a perfect opportunity to explore what they are – for you and your entire family.”
“Women are often the caregivers for their families and, as a result, forget to make their own health a priority,” said Obstetrician/Gynecologist Christina Collins, MD. “This event promotes health awareness and will be a reminder that women need to schedule their own annual check-ups and take a minute to think about their personal health.”
Ongoing sponsors include American Cancer Society, Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union, Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary, West Hawaii Community Health Center and West Hawaii Perinatal Local Area Consortium.
“It brings our community together,” added Emily Mendez-Bryant, Community Relations Director for Kona Community Hospital. “We want those who attend to come away with a sense of community pride and feel empowered that they can make better choices about their health.”
Direct health-related organizations and local businesses are encouraged to have an informational booth or be a sponsor. Volunteers for complimentary services such as massage, haircuts, and manicures are welcome as well.
