The World Health Organization and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have reported that health includes more than just the absence of disease. Health, as we know it today, also includes our wellness, and is based upon our physiological, social, environmental, mental, and spiritual aspects of self.
Wellness is also unique. At Kona Community Hospital, we believe that there are components to overall wellbeing that sometimes extend beyond what modern medicine and technological advancements can provide to our patients.
For this reason, we have introduced the C.A.R.E. Channel to our patients’ rooms.
Together, with the C.A.R.E. Channel, we believe that “the patient experience is the sum of all environmental interactions, perceived through a person’s individual culture, circumstance, relationships, and expectations-all of which influence how patients make meaning of what is happening to them.”
Through this channel, KCH patients can step into a calm, tranquil, relaxing environment that allows them to heal without the added stressors commonly associated with clinical settings. We want to optimize and improve the patient experience. By providing the C.A.R.E. channel for patients to view on their in-room T.V.’s, we can provide music and healing imagery that has a range of profound benefits, including pain management (often seen in our Maternity patients), creating communication-friendly environments for patients and their family, and centering ourselves around a relaxed environment for patient care and recovery.
Patients staying with us at the Kona Community Hospital may access the C.A.R.E. Channel on their room T.V.’s on channel 15.
