SALARY AMOUNT: $8,303 PER MONTH (SR-20; BU:09)
The RPN III provides nursing support for major and minor surgical procedures. Provides sterile and sanitary environment for the performance of surgical operations. Ensures that necessary equipment, instruments, and staff are available to enable the surgeon to perform the work properly. Provides professional nursing care intra-operatively according to the Professional Standards stated from AORN.
The purpose of position is to develop, implement, facilitate and maintain an overall Joint Commission program within the Surgical Services subsection. In addition to functioning as a member of the surgical team and is primary responsibility for assisting surgeons in an operating room by rendering a variety of specialized nursing services as a circulating nurse or a scrub nurse, and preparing for the various types of surgical operations requiring a thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and surgical procedures. The position may work on rotating shifts, extended workdays with work on weekends and holidays; requires standby call and call back duty. While on standby or call back duty, the incumbent of the position is required to report to work within 30 minutes of receiving call.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE
Education: Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. While not required, graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.
Experience: One-half (1/2) year of progressively responsible professional nursing work experience. One (1) year of inpatient or outpatient surgical experience within the last 2 years is preferred.
Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Health Care Worker required within one (1) month of appointment. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification are required within six (6) months of employment.
Licensure: Possession of a current license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii.
Required Forms & Documentation: Applicants must submit evidence of the appropriate training (e.g. official transcript or diploma and certifications) to be given credit for education. STEPS TO AN ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW, SUBSEQUENT APPEALS: If you do not agree with a decision made by the Employment Office as to your non-qualification or non-selection for a position, you may complete a Request for Administrative Review form (available on the HHSC website) or you may submit a written request within twenty (20) days from the date of your sent notice to the Regional Chief Executive Officer/Designee. Your letter requesting the Administrative Review must include 1. The job title(s) and recruitment number(s), 2. the specific reason(s) you are requesting the review noting if there is a statute or rule violation, and 3. any additional information you want to submit to substantiate your request. If you do not submit your request within the twenty (20) days deadline, no Administrative Review will be conducted. Since the Administrative Review is a prerequisite to subsequent steps, failure to utilize this process will make you ineligible for subsequent appeals.
